HIP How do I Get Involved?

Volunteer at Your Child’s School

I don’t feel like I have any special skills.  What could I do at my child’s school?

Every helping hand counts!  You can...
  • Join the school PTO and/or Governance Council.  Have a voice in how your child’s school runs!
  • Be in the classroom and help with individual students or behavior management
  • Chaperone a field trip
  • Help out at a school event, like being an usher for a school performance or helping to serve food at a Family Night
  • Get supplies ready for class art projects, like cutting out shapes.

But I’m busy during the day, so how can I help?

Most schools usually have events in the evenings or sometimes even on the weekends that could always use an extra set of hands.

Okay, I’m interested in volunteering.  What do I do now?

You can ask your child’s teacher what you can do.  The front office staff and principal are also good people to ask. They will be able to answer your questions and give you more information.  They will also help you with the process to become an approved school volunteer.
